Inson ham sichqon, baliq, hasharot, daraxt, moychechak singari organizmdir. Bakteriyalar va boshqa ko&#8217;zga tashlanmaydigan mavjudotlar ham organizmlarga kiradi. Barcha jonivorlar ayrim o&#8217;xshashliklarga egadir. Shu bois olimlar barcha tirik jonzotlarni bir so&#8217;z bilan ifodalash uchun &#8220;organizm&#8221; so&#8217;zidan foydalanishadi. Jonivorlarning hammasi a&#8217;zolardan tarkib topgan bo&#8217;lib, ularning har biri ma&#8217;lum bir funksiyani bajaradi va yaxlit vujudni tashkil etadi. Tiriklik uchun moddalar faol bo&#8217;lishi taqozo etiladi. Organizm faolligi kimyoviy bo&#8217;ladi va vujudning ichida kechadi. Kimyoviy faollik doimiy aylanishdagi jarayondir. Yashab bo&#8217;lgan modda doimo yangisi bilan almashib turadi. Organizmda modda va energiya almashinuviga modda almashinuvi deyiladi. Organizm eng so&#8217;nggi o&#8217;lchamiga kelgunga qadar o&#8217;sishda bo&#8217;ladi. U o&#8217;zini o&#8217;zi qayta yaratishi, ya&#8217;ni kuchini yo&#8217;qotgan organizmlar o&#8217;rnini yangi, yosh organizmlar egallashi kerak.
