Dastlab 1-Moskva gimnaziyasi (1835\u2014 40), keyin Moskva universitetining yuridik fakultetida (1840-43) o&#8217;qigan. Ammo o&#8217;qishni tugatmay, Moskvadagi vyukdon sudi (1843-45) va tijorat sudida (1845-51) xizmat qilgan. Sud muassasalarida ishlash Ostrovskiyga yozilajak pyesalari uchun boy material bergan. Ostrovskiyning dastlabki &#8220;kambag&#8217;al qarzdor&#8221; va &#8220;oilaviy baxt manzarasi&#8221; komediyalari &#8220;Moskovskiy gorodskoy listok&#8221; (&#8220;Moskva shahri Varanasi&#8221;) gazetasida bosilgan (1847). Ostrovskiyning &#8220;kambag&#8217;al qarzdor&#8221; pyesasi asosida yaratilgan &#8220;qo&#8217;ynidan to&#8217;kilsa ko&#8217;njiga&#8221; komediyasi (1849) Moskvadagi teatr jamoatchiligiga manzur bo&#8217;lgan. Ammo asar Nikolay I tomonidan taqiqlanib, muallif politsiya nazorati ostiga olingan. Ostrovskiy qalamiga mansub asarlar jami 47 ta bo&#8217;lib, ular &#8220;Ostrovskiy teatri&#8221; degan adabiy hodisani tashkil etgan. Ostrovskiyning adabiy-estetik qarashlari V. G. Belinskiy asarlari ta&#8217;sirida shakllangan. 40-yillarda yashagan boshqa rus yozuvchilari singari, Ostrovskiy ham san&#8217;atkor o&#8217;ziga zamondosh jamiyatning turli qismlarini maxsus o&#8217;rganib, zamondoshlar uchun xalq hayotining hanuzgacha tasvir etilgan sohalarini kashf etishi lozim, deb hisoblagan. 40-yillarda yashagan rus yozuvchilari ijodidagi ana shu tamoyil &#8220;fiziologik ocherk&#8221;da, ayniqsa, yorqin ko&#8217;ringan. Ostrovskiyning dastlabki pyesalari mazkur &#8220;fiziologik ocherklar&#8221; uslubida yozilgan. Ostrovskiy ijodi 3 bosqichdan iborat. Ijodining l-bosqichida dramaturg Rossiyadagi islohotlarga qadar bo&#8217;lgan hayotni tasvir etgan bo&#8217;lsa (&#8220;oilaviy turmush&#8221;, 1847; &#8220;qo&#8217;ynidan to&#8217;kilsa qo&#8217;njiga&#8221;, 1849; &#8220;bechora kelin&#8221;, 1852; &#8220;kambag&#8217;allik ayb emas&#8221;, 1853 va boshqalar), 2-bosqichida islohotdan keyingi rus jamiyati hayotini aks ettirgan (&#8220;eski do&#8217;stga nima etsin&#8221; 1860; &#8220;Kechikkan muhabbat&#8221;, 1873; Balzaminovlar oilasi haqidagi trilogiya, 1856-61; &#8220;quturgan pullar&#8221;, 1869; &#8220;bo&#8217;rilar va qo&#8217;ylar&#8221;, 1875 va boshqalar). &#8220;Boy kelinlar&#8221; (1875) pyesasi bilan Ostrovskiy ijodining 3-bosqichidagi &#8220;g&#8217;amgin komediyalar&#8221; turkumi boshlanadi. Dramaturg bu davrda &#8220;haqiqat yaxshiku, ammo baxt afzal&#8221; (1876), &#8220;yurak tosh emas&#8221; (1877), &#8220;Sepsiz qiz&#8221; (1878), &#8220;aybsiz aybdorlar&#8221; (1883) singari asarlarini yozgan. Ostrovskiy pyesalari sovet davrida O&#8217;zbekiston teatrlarida o&#8217;zbek va rus tillarida namoyish etilgan. Ostrovskiyning ayniqsa, &#8220;momaqaldiroq&#8221;, &#8220;Sepsiz qiz&#8221;, &#8220;Aybsiz aybdorlar&#8221;, &#8220;kambag&#8217;allik ayb emas&#8221; singari qator pyesalari o&#8217;zbek tiliga tarjima etilib, uzoq yillar davomida o&#8217;zbek sahnalarida ijro etildi.
