To&#8217;g&#8217;ri va teskari pezoelektr effektlar faqat pezoelektriklarda mavjud. Pezoelektr effektlar simmetriya markaziga ega bo&#8217;lmagan kristallarda kuzatiladi. Pezoelektrni 1817 yilda frantsuz kristallografi va minerologi R. J. Gayui (1743-1822) kaltsit kristallarida kuzatgan. Pezoelektrni har taraflama 1880 yilda aka-uka J. va P. Kyurilar kvars kristallida kuzatganlar. 1500 dan ortiq moddada pezoelektr hodisasi kuzatilgan; ular ichida kvars (pezokvars)dan tashqari segnet tuzi, bariy titanat, ammoniy Digidrofosfat, litiy niobat va boshqalar ham keng qo&#8217;llaniladi. Ko&#8217;pincha yana maxsus texnologiya bo&#8217;yicha olingan ba&#8217;zi segnetoelektriklarning qattiq eritmalari \u2014 pezokeramikalardan ham foydalaniladi.
