P. i. portlovchi moddalar va zaryad yordamida bajariladi. Portlovchi moddalarni qo&#8217;poriladigan ob&#8217;ekt orasiga joylashtirish uchun unda, odatda, oldindan burg&#8217;ilab bo&#8217;shliq (shpur, kamera) qaziladi. P. i. ning qo&#8217;llanish sohasi keng. Ular konchilikda eng ko&#8217;p ishlatiladi: qazilma boyliklarni seysmik usulda qidirish, konlarni ochish, qattiq qazilma boy- liklarni qazib olish va b. Qurilishda P.i.dan qurilish may-donchalarini te- kislash, muzlik va qoyali zaminlarni yumshatish, xarsang tosh va ildizlarni qo&#8217;porish, to&#8217;g&#8217;onlar qurish, yo&#8217;l va gidro- texnik tonnellar qurish va b.da foyda- laniladi. Su v xo&#8217;jaligida P.i. yorda- mida suv havzalari tubini va daryoning kema qat-naydigan joyi (farvateri) ni chuqurlashtirish, ko&#8217;l ostiga tiqilib qolgan katta muz bo&#8217;laklarini parchalash, inshootlarni bahorgi muz siljishlari- dan saklash va b. bajariladi. Sh i moliy qutb sharoitida P. i. b-n muz uyurmala- ri parchalanadi, muzlab qolgan kemalar muzlardan tozala-nadi va b. Metallur- giya sanoa-tida P. i.dan metallarni, po&#8217;latlistdan shtamplangan murakkab detallarni va metallarning payvand- langan joylarini mustahkamlashda, quymalarni kuyindi va zangdan toza- lash va b.da foydalaniladi. Neft va gaz sanoatida quduqlarda torpedalarni portlatish yo&#8217;li b-n neft katla-mida- gi debit oshiriladi, suv ostidan neft qazib chiqarish uchun sun&#8217;iy to&#8217;g&#8217;on va er osti neft ombori quriladi. Portla- tish yo&#8217;li b-n neft va gaz quduqlaridagi yong&#8217;in o&#8217;chiriladi. Elektr detonatorlarni portlatish portlatuv mashinasi b-n amalga oshiri- ladi. Portlatuv mashinasi elektromag- nitli, kondensatorli va Dinamo-elek- trikli xillarga bo&#8217;linadi. Kondensator- li portlatuv mashinasi ko&#8217;p tarqalgan, unda tok manbai sifatida kondensator ishlatiladi. Mashinaning ishlash tar- zi kam quvvatli elektr toki manbaidan olingan elektr energiyani 10-20 sek kondensatorga yigib, Yi-g&#8217;ilgan energiya- ni portlatish tarmog&#8217;iga ulashdan iborat. Portlovchi moddalardan tinch maqsadlarda foydalanish qadimdan ma&#8217;- lum; birinchi marta 1448-72 y.larda Neman daryosini tosh va b. jinslardan tozalashda ishlatilgan. Keyinchalik po- roxdan foydalanib ruda qazib chiqarish Rossiya (1617), Sileziya (1627), Chexiya (1629), Angliya (1670) va b. joylarda keng tarqala boshladi. Keyin elektr usuli b-n portlatish (1812) va Dina-mitning (1860) ixtiro qilinishi, burg&#8217;ilash ma- shinalari (1861), kapsyul-detonator- larning yaratilishi (1867) P. i.ni keng rivojlantirishga olib keldi.
