Kimyoviy tarkibi beqaror, bir qadar aniqroq formulasi (Ca, Na, K, Rb, Sn, U, va, Bi, Sb)2.m (Nb, ta, Ti)2O6. (O, on, F), mnH2O; izomorf aralashma holida U, Th, Ce, Y, Fe va b. bo&#8217;ladi. P.ga 3 kichik guruh (piroxlor, mikrolit va betafit)ga ajra- tilgan 21 mineral ki-ritilgan. Rangi och sariq, qizg&#8217;ish-jigarrang, qo&#8217;ng&#8217;ir-qora. Ayrimlari qizdirilganda sarg&#8217;ishyashil rangga o&#8217;tadi. Ko&#8217;pincha kichik (10-15 sm gacha) oktaedr, dodekaedr shaklda kubik singoniyali kristallar holida uchraydi. Qattikligi 4-5,5; zichligi tarkibiga va fizik xossalariga qarab o&#8217;zgaradi: 3700-5000 kg\/m3 (piroxlor va betafit) va 5900-6400 kg\/m3 (mikrolit). P. ba&#8217;- zan kuchli radioaktiv, tez o&#8217;zgarib tura- Di va metamikt minerallarga kiradi. Sienitli va nefelin-si-enitli pegma- titlarda tsirkon, ilmenit, sfen, kal- tsitlar b-n birga uchraydi.
