Nemis olimi F. Moos to- monidan 1811 y.da taklif qilingan. Qattiklikning 10 ta etalonidan iborat. M.sh. bo&#8217;yicha ularning joylashish tarti- bi quyidagicha: talk \u2014 1; gips\u20142; kal- tsit -3; flyuorit\u20144; apatit\u20145; orto- klaz\u20146; kvars\u20147; topaz\u20148; korund\u20149; olmos\u201410. Nisbiy kattiklik M.sh. eta- loni b-n sinalayotgan ob&#8217;ekt yuzasiga chi- zib aniqlanadi. Minerallarning faol va passiv qattiqligi farq qilinadi. Agar mineral b-n o&#8217;zining bo&#8217;lagi tirnal- ganda iz qoldirsa, u faol qattik\/shkka ega bo&#8217;ladi (mas, olmos). Qattiqligi 5 bo&#8217;lgan etalon b-n tadqiq qilinayotgan na- muna tirnalganda iz qoldirsa va u o&#8217;z na- vbatida kattikligi 4 bo&#8217;lgan etalonda iz qoldirsa, u holda o&#8217;rtadagi mineralning qattikligi 4,5 ga teng bo&#8217;ladi. M.sh.dan minerallarga tez tashhis qo&#8217;yishda foy- dalaniladi. Aniq qattiqlik esa pribor- lar yordamida aniqlanadi.
