Institutda olib boriladigan tadqiqotlar biologik sistemalar tuzilishining biokimyoviy asoslari va boshqaruvini o&#8217;rganish, tirik organizmlar faoliyatining biokimyoviy va molekulyar mexanizmlarini tadqiq etish; normal va patologik holatlarda hujayra membranasi va hujayra ichidagi biokimyoviy jarayonlarga gormonlar va boshqa biologik faol moddalar ta&#8217;sirini o&#8217;rganish, shuningdek ularning ta&#8217;sir mexanizmlaridagi yangi hodisalarni ochish; organizmda yod yetishmasligi hamda buqoq paydo bo&#8217;lishining biokimyoviy va molekulyar mexanizmlarini izlash, qandli diabetda glyukozaning hujayra ichiga o&#8217;tmaslik sabablarining molekulyar asoslarini topish va hujayra qobig&#8217;i tuzilishining ahamiyatini aniqlash, O&#8217;rta Osiyo ilonlaridan olinadigan zaharlar tarkibini o&#8217;rganish va ulardan kimyoviy sof biologik faol moddalar (fermentlar, toksinlar, turli peptidlar) ajratib olish hamda ularning tirik organizmlarga ta&#8217;sir etish jarayonlarini o&#8217;rganishdan iborat. Hujayra va sun&#8217;iy membranalarning o&#8217;zaro ta&#8217;sirini o&#8217;rganish asosida original liposomalar yaratish usuli ishlab chiqilgan. Liposomalar o&#8217;z tarkibidagi fiziologik faol moddalar \u2014 dori-darmonlarni belgilangan a&#8217;zolarga yetkazishni ta&#8217;minlaydi. Ularning bu xususiyati gen va membrane injeneriyasida qo&#8217;llaniladi. Bulardan tashqari, hayvon mahsulotlaridan ajratib olingan nerv o&#8217;stiruvchi omil \u2014 radioprotektorlarning fizik-kimyoviy xususiyatlari va ta&#8217;sir mexanizmlari ham o&#8217;rganilmoqda. Institutda 8 laboratoriya bo&#8217;lib, ularda 105 hodim, jumladan O&#8217;zbekiston Fanlar Akademiyasi 3 akademigi (Yo. X. To&#8217;raqulov, J. H. Hamidov, T. Soatov), 14 fan doktori, 33 fan nomzodi faoliyat ko&#8217;rsatadi (2000).
