SSSR Fanlar Akademiyasi Fizika institutida ishlagan (1930 yildan). Ilmiy ishlari fizik optika, yadro fizikasi, kosmik nurlar fizikasi va h tezlatkichlar texnikasiga oid. C. W. Vavilov rahbarligida uran tuzlari eritmasining gammanurlanish ta&#8217;siridagi lyuminessentsiyasini o&#8217;rganib, odatdagi lyuminessentsiyadan farqlanuvchi yorug&#8217;lik (Cherenkov \u2014 Vavilon nurlanishi) yuzaga kelishini qayd etdi, uning asosiy xossasi \u2014 yo&#8217;nalganligini aniqladi (1936). Moddada yorug&#8217;lik tezligidan katta tezlikli zaryadli zarralar ta&#8217;sirida moddaning yorug&#8217;lanish effekti Vavilov \u2014 Cherenkov effekti nomini oldi. Cherenkov birinchi sinxrotronlarning yaratilishiga hissa qo&#8217;shgan. Tormozlanish nurlanishining nuklonlar va yadrolar bilan o&#8217;zaro ta&#8217;sirini, fotoyadro va fotomezon reaktsiyalarni, yuqori energiyali gammakvantlar bilan yengil yadrolarning parchalanishini tadqiq etgan.
