O&#8217;tmishda ruboiy shaklidagi she&#8217;rlar bilan ijro etiladigan qo&#8217;shiq va ashulalar Tarona deb yuritilgan. Tarona atamasi, ayniqsa 14-15 asrlardan keng qo&#8217;llanila boshlagan. Najmiddin Kavkabiy va Darvishali Changiypshnt musiqa risolalarida kuy (qo&#8217;shiq)ning muayyan shakli sifatida tushuntirilgan; o&#8217;n ikki masom tizimida Ushshoq maqomi Tarona deb xam atalgan. &#8220;Tarona&#8221; atamasi bizgacha maqomlarning tarkibiy qismi (xususan, 15-17 asrlarda keng qo&#8217;llanilgan naqsh, amal, kor, qavl, rexta, saj&#8217;, savt, zarbayn kabi kuy va qo&#8217;shiq shakllari)ning umumlashgan nomi sifatida etib kelgan. Ularni Shashmaqom, Xorazm va Farg&#8217;ona \u2014 Toshkent maqom turkumlari tarkibidagi Taronalar orkali tasavvur et&#8217;ish mumkin. Jumladan, Shashmaqom ning 1-guruh sho&#8217;balari tarkibidagi Taronalarning umumiy soni 57 ta bo&#8217;lib, ular hajman ixcham ko&#8217;rinishdan tortib, shaklan rivojlangan, bastakorlik ijodiyotiga mansub ashulalargacha bo&#8217;lgan namunalarni o&#8217;zida mujassam etgan (masalan, xalq qo&#8217;shig&#8217;iga yaqiya bo&#8217;lgan Saraxbori Dugoxning 2 Taronasi, bastakorlik ijodiyotiga mansub 6 Taronasi) va boshqalar. Xorazm maqomlari turkumida sof &#8220;Tarona&#8221; nomli yo&#8217;llaridan tashqari, o&#8217;zga maqomlarda uchramaydigan Suvora, Naqsh, faryod kabi ashula qismlari mavjud. Taronaga turdosh mazkur aytimlarning musiqiy tuzilishi asosan rivojlangan sho&#8221;ba shakliga mos keladi, ularning har biri murakkab usullariga asoslanib, mumtoz shoirlar she&#8217;rlari bilan aytiladi. Farg&#8217;ona \u2014 Toshkent maqomlari tarkibida dastlabki qismlardan keyin keluvchi ashulalarning ayrimlari o&#8217;zining tuzilishi, vazni va doyra jihatidan Taronalarni eslatadi. Ushbu turkum taronalari ham Xorazm maqom taronalari singari shaklan sho&#8217;balar darajasiga etgan ashulalardir. Mazkur Taronalarning musiqiy tili ham, uslubi ham murakkab. Ba&#8217;zan Taronalarning kuy rivojida namudlar ham uchraydi. Taronalar ko&#8217;pincha 3\/4, 4\/4, 3\/4=3,8, 3\/4Q4\/4, 6\/4 va, hatto murakkab 13\/4 o&#8217;lchovidagi Suvora usuliga bog&#8217;lab aytiladi. Maqom Taronalari makrmlarning 2 asosiy sho&#8221;basini o&#8217;zaro bog&#8217;laydi, hajman yirik, tabiatan vazmin asosiy sho&#8221;balar orasida yangilanish (kontrast)ni yuzaga keltiradi, asosiy sho&#8217;balarning ijrochi (yetakchi Hofiz)lariga dam olish imkoniyatini yaratadi. Tarona atamasi hozirgi zamon musiqa amaliyotida kuy, ohang ma&#8217;nosida ham keng qo&#8217;llaniladi (masalan, &#8220;Sharq taronalari&#8221;, &#8220;chang taronalari&#8221;).
