Paydo bo&#8217;lish sharoitlariga ko&#8217;ra dengiz, quruqdik va oraliq Fasiyalariga bo&#8217;linadi. Fasiyaning yirik bir xil tipli majmualari kesimda formatsiyalarga birlashadi. &#8220;Fasiya&#8221; terminini fanga 19-asrda shveytsariyalik geolog A. Gresli kiritgan. U fasial o&#8217;zgarishlarning kelib chiqishini tog&#8217; jinslarining hosil bo&#8217;lish sharoitlaridagi farqi bilan bog&#8217;ladi va ularni hozirgi zamon dengiz tubida kuzatilishi mumkin bo&#8217;lgan o&#8217;zgarishlar bilan taqqosladi, ularni guruhlab, to&#8217;planish sharoitiga qarab litoral va pelagial Fasiyalar deb atadi. Shuning uchun bu termin Neftchi geologlar orasida keng qo&#8217;llaniladi. Amerikalik geologlar (F.Pettijon, L. Sloos, U. Krumbeyn) &#8220;litologik Fasiyalar&#8221; (yoki litofasiyalar) tushunchasini kiritdilar; bu tushuncha muayyan joydagi stratigrafik gorizont jinslarining litologik tarkibini bildiradi (masalan, qum Fasiyasi, gil Fasiyasi); jinslarning mineralogik tarkibi, strukturasi yoki teksturasiga ko&#8217;ra ajratilishi ham shu tushunchaga kiradi. &#8220;Biologik Fasiyalar&#8221; (biofasiyalar) ham bo&#8217;lib, organizmlar qoldiklariga asoslanib tiklangan qazilma biosenozlardir (masalan, marjonpolip Fasiya, graptolite Fasiya va boshqalar). Fasiyalarni tarixiy geologmyaning bo&#8217;limi \u2014 Fasiyalar haqidagi ta&#8217;limotda o&#8217;rganiladi.
