Inson ongining &#8220;jumboq&#8221;ligi, oldindan aytib bo&#8217;lmaslik xususiyati ifodalangan hikoyalari \u2014 &#8220;Ryosman&#8221; (1915), &#8220;Burun&#8221; (1916) unga shuhrat keltiradi. &#8220;Kuz&#8221; (1920), &#8220;Sovuq&#8221; (1924) psixologik hikoyalarida esa ijtimoiy yovuzlik dunyosida ezgulikning fojiaviy qismati aks etgan. &#8220;Suv alvastilari mamlakatida&#8221; (1927) ijtimoiy-fantastik majoziy asardir.
