Litogenezning asosiy omillari \u2014 tektonik harakatlar va iqlim. Litogenez to&#8217;g&#8217;risidagi ilk tushuncha 1893-94 yillarda nemis olimi I. Valter tomonidan kiritilgan. Litogenez tsiklida quyidagi 5 bosqichni ajratadilar: 1) yuza qatlam gipergenezi \u2014 dastlabki tub tog&#8217;jinsining fizik, kimyoviy jarayonlar ta&#8217;sirida parchalanishi, hosil bo&#8217;lishi va joydan joyga ko&#8217;chishi; 2) sedimentogenez \u2014 cho&#8217;kindilarning suv oqimi oxirgi manziliga yetib borishi va muqim cho&#8217;kishi; 3) diagenez \u2014 suvga to&#8217;yingan cho&#8217;kindining fizik-kimyoviy muvozanatlashuvi, uning turg&#8217;un holatdagi cho&#8217;kindi jinsga aylanishi bilan yakun topishi; 4) katagenez \u2014 chuqurlikka yotqizilgan cho&#8217;kindi jinsning temperatura va bosim ostida, ayrim hollarda gaz va turli tuzlarga to&#8217;yingan suv ta&#8217;sirida o&#8217;zgarishi; 5) metagenez, metamorfizm \u2014 tobora chuqurroqda joylashayotgan cho&#8217;kindi jinslar tarkibining o&#8217;zgarishi. N. M. Straxov Litogenezning gumid (sernam), muzlikli, arid (quruqlik) va Vulkanogen \u2014 cho&#8217;kindili tiplari mavjud ekanligini 1956 yil isbotladi. Gumid Litogenez sernam iqlimli rayonlarda quruqlik va dengizda; muzli Litogenez \u2014 muzliklar bilan qoplangan materiklarda; aridlisi quruq iqlimli materik va dengizlarda; vulkanogen cho&#8217;kindilisi \u2014 cho&#8217;kindisi harakatda bo&#8217;lgan vulkan atrofiga xosdir. Keyingi yillarda olib borilgan ilmiy tadqiqotlar qadimgi geologik davrlarda gumid hamda arid iqlim Litogenez mavjudligini ko&#8217;rsatadi. Masalan, O&#8217;zbekiston va O&#8217;rta Osiyo hududlarida tarqalgan yura va bo&#8217;r davrlari yotqiziqlari orasidagi ko&#8217;mir, boksit va kaolin giltoshlar gumid Litogenezning, mezozoy va kaynozoy eralarida hosil bo&#8217;lgan qalin ohaktosh osh tuzi, gips-angidrid va qizil tosh qatlamlari esa arid (quruq va issiq) Litogenezning yorqin dalilidir.
