Dispers faza zarrachalari bilan dispersion muhit zarrachalari orasidagi bog&#8217;lanishga qarab, Liofil va liofob kolloidlar farq qilinadi. Agar dispersion muhit suv bo&#8217;lsa, &#8220;liofil&#8221; va &#8220;liofob&#8221; terminlari o&#8217;rnida &#8220;gidrofil&#8221; va &#8220;gidrofob&#8221; so&#8217;zlari ishlatiladi. Liofil kolloidlarga molekulyar moddalari juda katta bo&#8217;lgan yuqori molekulyar moddalar hamda oqsil, jelatina, pepsin kabi birikmalarning eritmalari misol bo&#8217;la oladi. Rus olimi P. A. Liofob kolloidlarda dispers faza dispersion muhit bilan kuchsiz bog&#8217;langanligi sababli ularning zarrachalari alohida molekulalardan iborat bo&#8217;lmay, bir qancha molekulalar agregatini tashkil qiladi. Bu sistemalarda kolloid zarrachalarining o&#8217;lchami dispersion muhit molekulalarining o&#8217;lchamiga nisbatan bir necha marta katta bo&#8217;lganligi uchun kolloid zarracha bilan suyuqlik orasida chegara sirti hosil bo&#8217;ladi.
