O&#8217;zbek mumtoz adabiyotining so&#8217;nggi namoyandalaridan biri. 16-17 yoshlarida Toshkent shahri Kesaqqo&#8217;rg&#8217;on mahallasidagi madrasaga o&#8217;qishga kirib, Arab va fors tillarini mukammal o&#8217;zlashtirgan; o\u2019zbek, Ozarbayjon, turk, fors va Arab adabiyotlarini puxta o&#8217;rgangan. 1908-09 yillarda na- voiy ijodini mutolaa qilib, &#171;Farhod va Shirin&#187; hamda &#171;Layli va Majnun&#187; dostonlarining soddalashtirilgan nasriy nusxalarini tayyorlagan va o&#8217;z hisobidan nashr etgan. 1910-14 yillarda madrasadoshi Sidqiy Xondayliqiy bilan hamkorlikda &#171;Armug&#8217;oni xislat&#187;, &#171;Hidoyai xislat&#187;, &#171;Savg&#8217;oti xislat&#187;, &#171;Tuhfai xislat&#187; kabi bayozlarini nashr ettirgan. Bu bayozlarda shoirning 100 dan ziyod lirik she&#8217;rlari e&#8217;lon qilingan. Xislatning lirik she&#8217;rlarida Bobur, Mashrab va, ayniqsa, Navoiy ijodining ta&#8217;siri kuchli. Bu ta&#8217;sir uning &#171;Naylaram bog&#8217;u chaman sayrini jonon bo&#8217;lmasa&#187;, &#171;qandoq qilay&#187;, &#171;Ey nigorim&#187;, &#171;iqlimi devona qilgan bir pari savdosidur&#187;, &#171;o&#8217;ldim asiring, ey yor&#187;, &#171;Ey xublar sarosi&#187;, &#171;Orazingmu yo guli ra&#8217;nomidur&#187;, &#171;Ey parivash&#187; singari g&#8217;azallarining badiiy qurilmasida ham, g&#8217;oyaviy yo&#8217;nalishida ham yaqqol ko&#8217;rinadi. Xislatning dunyoviy g&#8217;oyalar bilan yo&#8217;g&#8217;rilgan bir qancha g&#8217;azallari Mulla To&#8217;ychi Toshmuhamedov va Hamroqul qori kabi mashhur hofizlar tomonidan ijro yetib kelingan. Xislat 1917 yildan keyin ham badiiy ijod bilan shug&#8217;ullanib, zamonaviy mavzularda g&#8217;azal va muxammaslar yaratgan. Ammo Sovet davlatining jadid shoirlarga nisbatan sovuq munosabati tufayli u yoshlikda egallagan hunari \u2014 duradgorlikni davom ettirib, 1940 yilga qadar imoratsozlik ishlari bilan ko&#8217;proq mashg&#8217;ul bo&#8217;lgan. Xislatning adabiy merosida tarjima asarlar katta o&#8217;rin egallaydi. U Nizomiyning &#171;Layli va Majnun&#187; dostoni, Firdavsiyning &#171;Shohnoma&#187; dostoni asosida nasrlashtirilgan &#171;Barzuyi sher&#187;, &#171;Pahlavoni Ahmad&#187;, Ubayd Zokoniyning &#171;Mushuk va sichqon&#187; asarlarini fors tilidan tarjima qilgan, Arab va fors mumtoz adabiyotlaridagi bolalarbop rivoyatlar va masallarni she&#8217;riy tarjima qilib, &#171;non va halvo&#187; degan majmua tuzgan. Toshkent sh.dagi ko&#8217;chalardan biri Xislat nomi bilan ataladi.
