Replikatsiya mexanizmining asosida DNK molekulasining DNK matrisasi (qolipi) da yoki RNK molekulasining RNK matritsasida fermentativ reaktsiyalar yordamida sintezlanishi yotadi. Bu reaktsiyalarni amalga oshiradigan fermentlar orasida 1 sekundda 1000 tagacha nukleotidni sintezlaydigan (bakteriyalarda) DNK polimeraza fermenti muhim o&#8217;rinni egallaydi. DNK molekulasi yarim konservativ xususiyatga ega, yangi hosil bo&#8217;layotgan 2 ta DNK molekulasidagi zanjirlarning biri &#171;eski&#187;, boshqasi &#171;yangi&#187; bo&#8217;ladi. Replikatsiya birligi replikon hisoblanadi. Termin F. Jakov va S. Brenner tomonidan taklif qilingan. Prokariotlar genomi, odatda, bitta, eukariotlar genomi juda ko&#8217;p replikonlardan tashkil topgan. Tirik organizmlarda in vivo sharoitida boradigan Replikatsiya o&#8217;ta aniq jarayon hisoblanadi. Nuqgali mutatsiyalarni vujudga keltiradigan xatoliklar juda kam bo&#8217;lib, avlodga nisbatan har bir nukleotid uchun 10&#8242; dan yuqori bo&#8217;lmaydi. Eukariotlarda Replikatsiya birmuncha sekin (sekundiga 100 nukleotid), ammo bir vaqtning o&#8217;zida bir DNK molekulasining bir necha nuktasida amalga oshadi. Replikatsiyani xromosomalar sonining 2 baravar ortishi ham deyiladi.
