Ojeshkoning ilk roman va qissalari (&#171;Pan Grabe&#187;, 1869; &#171;Marta&#187;, 1873 va boshqalar) ayollarning insoniy qadr-qimmat va ijtimoiy erkinlik uchun kurashiga bag&#8217;ishlangan. Ojeshko ijodining asosiy mavzui eski pomeshchiklik tartibining inqirozi hamda burjuaziya obro&#8217;-e&#8217;tiborining yuksalishidir: &#171;eli Makover&#187; (1874-75), &#171;Broxvichlar oilasi&#187; (1876) romanlari va boshqalar.
