Atir dastlab Sharq mamlakatlarida tarqalgan. U zamonlarda Atir turli gul moylaridan olinib, mushk va anbarlar aralashtirib tayyorlangan. Qadim zamonlarda (miloddan avvalgi 5000 \u2014 2000 yil) ham Atir ishlatilganligi ma&#8217;lum. Hozir Atir sun&#8217;iy usulda sintez qilingan har xil xushbo&#8217;y moddalardan ham ishlab chiqarilmoqda. Gultojbarg yoki o&#8217;simlik ildizidan efir moyi olish uchun u maxsus germetik qozonda ekstraktsiya qilinadi va Atir kompozisiyasi (efir moyi bilan xushbo&#8217;y modda aralashmasi) tayyorlanadi. Har bir Atir uchun o&#8217;ziga xos &#171;hid&#187; (bo&#8217;y) tanlanadi. Tuzilgan kompozisiya yuqori darajada tozalangan etil spirtda eritilib, emallangan berk idishlarda 12 kungacha saqlanadi. So&#8217;ngra filtrdan o&#8217;tkazilib, flakon shishachalarga quyiladi. A&#8217;lo sifatli Atirda 10-12%, o&#8217;rtachasida 5% xushbo&#8217;y modda bo&#8217;ladi.
