Sharq mamlakatlarida qadimdan rivoj topib, ayniqsa, o&#8217;rta asrlarda keng tarqalgan. O\u2019rta Osiyoning Buxoro, Samarqand, Xiva, Toshhovuz, Xo&#8217;jand, Qo&#8217;qon, Chimkent, Toshkent singari yirik shaharlarida qandolatchilar shinni, asal, turli mevalarning shiralaridan, shuningdek, un, kunjut, o&#8217;rik, bodom mag&#8217;izi, yong&#8217;oq va boshqalardan foydalanib, turli-tuman obaki, holva, novvot, pechak, pashmak, parvarda, nisholda, murabbolar, atirgul gul barglarini shakar bilan aralashtirib gulqand, muz bilan shinni yoki meva sharbatini qo&#8217;shib muzqaymoqlar tayyorlaganlar. Shaharlarda, yirik qishloq bozorlarida Qandolatchilik rastalari bo&#8217;lgan. Qandolatchilar 4-5, ba&#8217;zan 10-12 kishilik ustaxonalarga uyushgan, ularning do&#8217;konlari, asosan, xonadonlarda hovlining bir qismini tashkil etgan. Qandolatchilarning asboblari cho&#8217;yan va mis qozonlar, mis tovoq-tog&#8217;ora, yog&#8217;och qorgich, chilcho&#8217;p, tarozi kabilardan iborat bo&#8217;lib, katta-kichik o&#8217;choqlar, uzum shirasi olinadigan maxsus qurilmalardan foydalanganlar. 20-asrning 20-yillaridan Qandolatchilik mahsulotlari (konfet, shokolad, monpase va boshqalar) ishlab chiqaradigan yirik fabrikalar paydo bo&#8217;lishi bilan (masalan, Toshkentda 1922 yilda &#171;o&#8217;rtoq&#187; qandolatchilik fabrikasi ishga tushirildi). Qandolatchilik ning hunarmandchilikda kasb sifatida faoliyat sohasi bir kadar qisqardi, ammo shunga qaramay sanoat usulida ishlab chiqarish mumkin bo&#8217;lmagan yoki rentabelli bo&#8217;lmagan shirinliklar turlarini ishlab chiqarish saqlanib qoldi va rivojlandi. 90-yillar boshidan shahar va qishloqlarda Qandolatchilikda yakka tadbirkorlar va xususiy korxonalar faoliyat ko&#8217;rsata boshladi, Qandolatchilik mahsulotlarining tur tarkibi va bozorda sotilishi miqdori ko&#8217;paydi.
