Rangsiz kristallar; oddiy sharoitda barqaror. Yuqori temperaturada kislorod ajratib chiqarib parchalanadi. Nitratlar parchalanganida tarkibidagi metallning faolligiga qarab turlicha maqsulotlar hosil bo&#8217;ladi. Masalan, ishqoriy va ishqoriy-yer metallarning Nitratlari parchalanganida nitritlar hosil bo&#8217;ladi va kislorod ajralib chiqadi; og&#8217;ir metallarning Nitratlari parchalanganida metall oksidi, azot (1U)-oksid va kislorod hosil bo&#8217;ladi. Ammoniy nitrat NH4NO3, kaliy nitrat KNO3, kaltsiy nitrat Ca(NO3)2 selitralar deb ataladi. Nitratlar nitrat kislotani metallar, oksidlar, gidroksidlar va ba&#8217;zi tuzlarga ta&#8217;sir ettirib olinadi. Turli sanoat sohalarida, qishloq xo\u2019jaligida o&#8217;g&#8217;it sifatida, portlovchi moddalar ishlab chiqarishda, bo&#8217;yoqchilikda tezob sifatida qo&#8217;llanadi. Nitratlar zaharli.
