Ilk namunalari Sharq (mas, 5-a. Xindiston, 12-a. Xitoy)da shakllangan. Mazkur janr Ozarbayjonda 20-a. bo- shida, O&#8217;rta Osiyo va Qozog&#8217;istonda 1920- y.larda vujudga kelgan. M.D.da sahna voqealari, qahramonlarning ichki kechin- ma va holatlari, o&#8217;zaro mu-nosabatlari so&#8217;z, musiqa, dramatik harakat, shuning- dek, raqs orqali ifodalanadi, musiqa va so&#8217;z bir-birini to&#8217;ldirib, asar mazmuni- ni ochishga xizmat qiladi. O&#8217;zbekistonda M.D. janri 1910-20 y.lardan milliy adabiybadiiy tomosha san&#8217;ati va musi- ka merosi zaminida shakllana boshla- Di. Uning tarkib topishida o&#8217;zbek xalq tomoshalarida musiqadan foydalanish tajribalari, shuningdek, Ozarbayjon teatrining musiqali dramatik spektak- llari muhim rol o&#8217;ynadi. Hamzaning &#171;Hoy, ishchilar&#187;, &#171;qarmoq&#187;, &#171;quzg&#8217;unlar&#187; kabi instsenirovkalari, &#171;Farg&#8217;ona foji- asi&#187; tetralogiyasi; G&#8217;ulom za-fariyning &#171;Halima&#187; pesasi; Xurshidning Navoiy dostonlari asosida yaratilgan &#171;Farhod va Shirin&#187;, &#171;Layli va Majnun&#187; asar- larida M.D.ning o&#8217;ziga xos jihatlari mustahkamlana boshladi. O&#8217;zbek M.D.si o&#8217;z taraqqiyotida bir necha davrni bosib o&#8217;tdi. Dastavval pesaga mos musiqa ma- teriali xalq ijodidan saralab olingan bo&#8217;lsa, 1930-y.larning boshida S Abdul- laning &#171;po&#8217;rtana&#187;, M. Muhamedov va K. Yashinning &#171;ichkarida&#187; kabi zamonaviy asarlari sahnalashtirilganida xalq musiqa merosi namunalarini qayta ish- lashga urg&#8217;u berilgan. O&#8217;zbek bastakor va kom-pozitorlari M.D. musiqasining ifodaviy imkoniyatlarini kengayti- rishdi. &#171;Layli va Majnun&#187; (Navoiy- ning shu nomli dostoni asosida Xurshid librettosi; T. Sodiqov va N. Mironov musiqasi), &#171;Farhod va Shirin&#187; (Navo- iy-Xurshid, V. Uspenskiy), &#171;Gulsara&#187; (K. Yashin; R. Glier) kabi M.D.lar shu- lar jumlasidandir. M.D.ning adabiy va musiqa jihatidan yuksalishida dra- maturglardan K. Yashin, S. Abdulla va bastakor T. Jalilovning xizmatlari katta. Ular qalamiga mansub &#171;Nurxon&#187;, &#171;Ravshan va Zulxumor&#187; (K. Yashin; T. Ular o&#8217;zbek musiqa merosi, Evropa professi- onal musiqa uslubi, ifoda vositalari va shakllari (jumladan, ariya, duet va b. ansambllar, xor va raqs sahnalari)ga tayanib, o&#8217;z M.D.larida haqiqiy musiqiy dramaturgiya hosil qilishga intilishdi. Dramaturg, kompozitor va ijrochilar- ning malakasi oshishi natijasida M.D. zamonaviy professional musiqali- dramatik janr darajasiga ko&#8217;tarildi va uziga xos xususiyatlariga ega bo&#8217;ldi. &#171;Vatan ishqi&#187; (3. O&#8217;zbek kompozitorlari ijo- didan katta urin olgan musiqali kome- diyani musiqashunoslar mustaqil janr sifatida tadqiq qiladilar; 2) opera- ning dastlabki nomlaridan biri (ital. dramma in musica, dramma per(la) musica). 16-a. oxiri \u2014 17-a. boshlarida Italiya (mas, K. Monteverdi ijodi)da paydo bo&#8217;lgan. 1639 y. paydo bulgan yangi &#171;ope- ra&#187; nomi M.D. urnini egallay boshlagan. 19-a. o&#8217;rtalarida R. Vagner o&#8217;zining yuksak musiqali-dramatik rivojiga ega bo&#8217;lgan &#171;Nibelunglar uzugi&#187; tetralogiyasi, &#171;Tristan va Izolda&#187;, &#171;parsifal&#187; ope- ralarini M.D. deb ta&#8217;riflagan, M. Mu- sorgskiy esa &#171;Boris Godunov&#187;, &#171;Xovansh- China&#187; kabi asarlarini xalq M.D.lari deb atagan.
