Ayeroblar kislorodlan oksidlovchi sifatida foydalanadi. Ayeroblarga barcha o&#8217;simliklar, ko&#8217;pchilik hayvonlar, zamburug&#8217;lar kiradi. Hayvonlarning kislorodsiz muhitda hayot kechirishi ikkilamchi xususiyatga ega. Ayeroblar biologik oksidlanishni hujayra nafas olish sistemasi orqali amalga oshiradi. Oksidlanish jarayonida kislorod to&#8217;la qaytarilmasdan zaxarli mahsulotlar hosil bo&#8217;lishi tufayli Ayeroblar bu mahsulotlarni parchalaydigan fermentlar (katalaza, super oksid tsismutgaza) ga ega. Anaerob organizmlarda bunday fermentlar bo&#8217;lmasligi tufayli O2 ular uchun zaharli ta&#8217;sir etadi. Nafas olish zanjiri ayniqsa bakteriyalarda xilma-xil bo&#8217;lib, tsitoxromoksidaza bilan birga boshqa terminal oksidazalar ham ishtirok etadi. Ayeroblar orasida fotosintez qiluvchi tsianobakterlar, suv o&#8217;tlari, yuksak o&#8217;simliklar asosiy ahamiyatga ega.
