Asosan, 15-a.da Arab tilida tarkib topgan ertaklar to&#8217;plami (qo&#8217;lyozmalari 17-19-a.larga mansub). Asarning yaratilish tarixi, qaysi xalqning adabiy merosi ekanligi haqida turli fikr-mulohazalar mav- jud. Tadqiqotchilarning xulosalari- ga ko&#8217;ra, &#171;M.b.k.&#187;to&#8217;plamidagi ertak va hikoyatlarni 3 asosiy guruhga ajratish mumkin: qad. davrga mansub hind-Eron, o&#8217;rta davrga mansub Bag&#8217;dod va so&#8217;nggi davr- ga mansub Misr ertaklari. &#171;M.b.k.&#187;ning eng qad. asosi hind-Eron ertaklaridan iborat Eroncha &#171;hazor afsona&#187; (&#171;ming ertak&#187;) to&#8217;plami bo&#8217;lib, u 8-a.da fors tilidan Arab tiliga tarjima qilingan. O&#8217;sha davrdayoq &#171;ming kecha&#187; nomini olgan ushbu tarjima matni saqlanib qolmagan, uning aniq tarkibi haqida ham hech qanday ma&#8217;lumot yo&#8217;q. Arab olimi Ibn an-Nadimning yozi- shicha, bag&#8217;dodlik adib al-Jahshiyoriy (942 y. v.e.) mazkur &#171;hazor afsona&#187;ga o&#8217;xshatib &#171;ming kecha&#187; nomli ertaklar to&#8217;plamini tuzishga kirishgan, biroq 480 ta to&#8217;plagan paytda vafot etgan. 9\u2014 10-a. larga mansub, hind-Eron va Arab (Bag&#8217;dod, Basra kabi shaharlarda yaratilgan) erta- klaridan iborat &#171;ming kecha&#187; to&#8217;plami 12-13-a.larda Misrda yangidan-yangi mahalliy ertaklar b-n boyigan. Maj- muaning &#171;ming kecha&#187; o&#8217;rniga &#171;M.b.k.\u00bb deb atala boshlanishi ham shu davrga to&#8217;g&#8217;ri keladi. Nemis olimi Litmann bu o&#8217;zgarishni turkchada noaniq ko&#8217;plikni an &#8212; glatadigan &#171;bin bir&#187; (ming bir) ibora- si b-n bog&#8217;laydi. Keyinchalik esa &#171;ming bir&#187; iborasi to&#8217;plamdagi kechalarning aniq miqdori ma&#8217;nosida qabul etilgan va to&#8217;plamni shu nomga moslash uchun unga qo&#8217;shimcha materiallar kiritilgan (17-a. da asar hoz. tugallangan shaklga keldi). &#171;M.b.k.&#187;asarining mazmuni, voqealar tasnifi turli davrlar, Sharq xalklari va mamlakatlarining tarixi b-n uzviy bog&#8217;liq. Asar 300 dan ortiq qissa va hikoyalardan iborat bo&#8217;lib, ular- da Sharq xalqlarining urf-odatlari, or- zu-umidlari, tarixi, sarguzashtlari uz ifodasini topgan; xudbinlik, ochko&#8217;zlik, maishiy buzuklik, johillik kabi il- latlar qoralanib, poklik, rostgo&#8217;ylik, donolik, kamtarlik, sahiylik singari fazilatlar ulug&#8217;langan. &#171;M.b.k.&#187;kompozisiyasi &#171;ertak ichi- da ertak&#187; tarzida tuzilgan bo&#8217;lib, un- dagi barcha ertak, hikoyat, masallar podshoh Shahriyor va vazirning oqila qizi Shahrizoda haqidagi ertak va hikoyatlar b-n o&#8217;rab olingan. Malika- ning xiyonatidan g&#8217;azablangan Shaxriyor har kecha yotog&#8217;iga yangi ma&#8217;shuqa kelti- rishni buyuradi va ertalab uni qatl et- tiradi. Navbat Shaxrizodaga kelganda, qiz behuda qon to&#8217;kilishining oldini olish maqsadida shohga hikoya aytib bera boshlaydi va hikoya eng qiziq joy- iga kelganda, tong otib, hikoya aytishni to&#8217;xtatadi. Hikoyaning davomiga qiziqib qolgan Shahriyor qatlni keyingi kun- ga qoldiradi. Shu tariqa ming bir kecha o&#8217;tadi. Shahrizodaning aklu zakovatidan lol qolgan Shahriyor unga uylanadi. &#171;M.b.k.&#187;ning jahon kutubxonala- rida 40 ga yaqin qo&#8217;lyozmalari bor. Asar- ning birinchi, to&#8217;la bo&#8217;lmagan frantsuzcha tarjimasi (A. Gallan) 1704-17 y.larda nashr etilgan. Uning matnidan boshqa ko&#8217;plab Evropa tillariga ham tarjima qilingan. 1911 y. Sidqiy Xondayliqiy forscha matnidan, bir yildan keyin (1912 y.) Ahror Mahdum arabchadan o&#8217;zbekchaga qisqartirilgan holda tarjima qilgan. &#171;M.b.k.&#187;1959\u2014 63 y.larda Arab tilidan o&#8217;zbek tiliga to&#8217;la tarjima etildi. &#171;M.b.k.&#187;hikoyalari Markaziy Osiyo va Evropa xalqlarining og&#8217;zaki ijo- diga, shuningdek, jahondagi ko&#8217;pgina xalqlarning yozma adabiyotiga katta ta&#8217;- sir ko&#8217;rsatgan (mas, mo&#8217;g&#8217;ullarning &#171;ming bir oqshom&#187;, peruliklarning &#171;ming bir soat&#187;, tatarlarning &#171;ming bir chorak soat&#187;, suriyaliklarning &#171;besh yuz yarim tong va b.&#187;). Tasviriy san&#8217;at va musiqada ham shu mavzuda asarlar yaratilgan (Eron miniatyuralari; N. A.
