Atom radiusi 0,146 nm, ion radiusi (qavslarda koordinasion son keltirilgan) Cd2+ 0,092 nm (4), 0,101 nm (5), 0,109 nm (6), 0,117 nm (7), 0,145 nm (12). Poling bo&#8217;yicha elektromanfiyligi 1,7. K.ni 1817 y.da nemis kimyogari F. Shtro- Meyer kashf etgan. Dastlab rux karbo- nat tarkibidan olingani uchun rux ru- dasining yunoncha nomi (&#171;Kadmeia&#187;) b-n atalgan. Tabiatda rux, qo&#8217;rg&#8217;oshin va mis rudalari b-n aralash uchraydi. K. \u2014 siy- rak element; uning er po&#8217;stidagi o&#8217;rtacha miqdori og&#8217;irlik jihatidan l,3-10~5%, dengiz va okean suvlarida 0,00011 mg\/l. K.ning selenid (CdSe), otavit (CdO3) va monteponit (CdO), grinokit (CdS) kabi Nodir minerallari ma&#8217;lum. Sulfid ru- dalarida, jumladan, sfalerit minerali (ZnS) tarkibida (0,01\u20145,0%), galenitda (0,02% gacha), xalkopiritda (0,12%), pi- ritda (0,02%) uchraydi. Nam havoda K.ning sirti yupqa oksid parda b-n qoplanadi. Bu parda uni keyingi oksidlanishdan saqlaydi. Suyuqlanish t-rasidan yuqori haroratlarda yonib, qo&#8217;ng&#8217;ir rangli kadmiy oksid (CdO) hosil qiladi. K. NS1, H2SO4 da, ayniqsa, HNO, da erib, tegishli tuzlar beradi. Ishqorlarda erimaydi. K. kislorod, oltingugurt, galogenlar va b. b-n reak- tsiyaga kirishadi. K.ning tuzlari, suv va kislotalarda eriydigan birikmalari zaharli. K. mis, rux, qo&#8217;rg&#8217;oshin rudala- rini qayta ishlashdagi chiqindilardan ajratib olinadi.
