Ishlashi tashqi nurlanish ta&#8217;sirida atomlar, ionlar va molekula- larning o&#8217;zidan fotonlarni chiqarishiga asoslangan. O&#8217;YuCh (o&#8217;ta yuqori chastota) diapazondagi birinchi K.g. 1955 y.da N. G. Basov va A. M. Proxorov hamda AQSh olimlari J. Gordon, X. Tseyger va Ch. Ta- uns tomonidan (bir-biridan mustaqil) yaratilgan. Unda faol muhit sifatida ammiak molekulalari NH3 dastasi ish- latilgan, shu sababli u molekulyar gene- rator deb yuritiladi. Hozir molekulyar generatorlarda ammiak molekulalaridan tashqari formaldegid molekulalari, tsianid kislota molekulalari, vodorod atomlari, suv, deyteriylangan ammiak molekulalari va b. ishlatiladi. Mo- lekulyar generatorlarning kamchiligi spektr chiziqlarining murakkab tuzi- lishidadir. Har bir spektr chiziqning o&#8217;zi bir-biriga juda yaqin joylashgan chiziqlar to&#8217;plamidan iborat bo&#8217;lib, ularni radiospektroskoplarda ajra- tish qiyin. Radiodiapazondagi K.g.ning alohida xususiyati \u2014 tebranish chasto- tasi so turg&#8217;unligining yuqoriligidir (Dyu\/sh\u201410~13). Shuning uchun ulardan chastotaning kvant standarti sifatida foydalaniladi. Optik diapazonda ish- laydigan K. g. 1960-y.larda paydo bo&#8217;lib, lazer deb ataladi. Lazerning faol muhiti turlicha bo&#8217;lib, unda: kristall, shisha, gaz, suyuqlik, yarimo&#8217;tkazgichlar ishlatilgan. K.g. juda qisqa diapazonda yorug&#8217;lik to&#8217;lqinlari tarqatadi. Birin- chi qattiq jism (yoqut) li K.g. \u2014 lazerni 1960 y.da amerikalik fizik T. Meyman, neon \u2014 geliy (Ne \u2014 ne) gazli genera- torni amerikalik fiziklar A. Javan, U. Bennet va D. Garriot yaratdilar. Optik K. g. yorug&#8217;lik manbalaridan o&#8217;zining o&#8217;ta yuqori monoxromatligi (ya&#8217;ni chastotasi- ning turg&#8217;unligi) va nurlanish quvvati b-n farq qiladi. Gazli K. g. uzluksiz tartibda 5 kVt gacha nurlanish quvvatiga ega. Qattiq jismli generator esa 1013 Vt gacha nurlanish quvvatiga ega.
