Ingliz biokimyogarlari g. Krebs va V. Jonson topgan (1937). T.k.ts. turli fermentlar ta&#8217;sirida katalizlanib amalga oshuvchi ketma-ket reaktsiyalardan iborat. Boshqacha qilib aytganda, ozuqa mahsulotlarining biokimyoviy o&#8217;zgarishi o&#8217;laroq organizmda Aatsetilkofermenti, Lketoglutar kislota va oksalatsirka kislota hosil bo&#8217;lib, keyin T.k.ts.gacha oksidlanadi. Mazkur reaktsiyalarda ana shu holdagi sirka kislota qoldig&#8217;i uglerod dioksid bilan suvgacha oksidlanadi. Natijada mazkur tsiklning 1aylanishida sirka kislota krldigi butunlay parchalanib ketadi, oksalatsirka kislota esa tiklanadi va 2 yangi aylanish tsiklida ishtirok etadi. Qoldiq sirka kislotaning T.k.ts.ga oksidlanishida 2 molekula uglerod dioksidning ajralishi va 4 marta degidrogenlanishi bilan sodir bo&#8217;ladi. Biologik oksidlanishda T. k.ts.ning oksidlanishga beriluvchi substratnaya ajralib chiquvchi vodorod atomi oraliq tashitgichlar orqali kislorodga o&#8217;tkaziladi, buning natijasida suv hosil bo&#8217;ladi. Shu boisdan mazkur tsikl organizmda modda va energiya almashinu &#8212; VI umumiy sistemasida Markaziy o&#8217;rinni egallovchi muhim jarayonlardan xisoblanadi. Glikoliz jarayonida yog kislotalarining oksidlanish reaktsiyalarida ular energiyasining &#8216;G&#8217;3 qismi ajralsa, T. k.ts. reaktsiyalarida barcha energiya ajralib chiqadi. T.k.ts. fermentlari o&#8217;simlik, hayvon hamda mikroorganizmlarning hayot faoliyatida muhim rol o&#8217;ynaydi. Bunda limon kislota T.k.ts. da ham, glioksilat tsiklida ham baravar ishtirok etadi.
