O&#8217;lchami 2 mm dan katta va o&#8217;rtacha, yoki 2 mm dan 0,05 mm gacha bo&#8217;lgan qum zarralari \u2014 elaklarda ajratiladi. Zarra yoki Changsi- mon (0,05 mm dan 0,002 mm gacha) va gilli (0,002 mm dan kichik) fraktsiyalar tinch holatdagi suvda zarralarning cho&#8217;kish tez- ligi bo&#8217;yicha yoki tsentrifuga yordamida ajratiladi.
