G.ning asosiy vazifasi er po&#8217;sti ayrim uchastkalarining zo&#8217;riqqan deformasion holati (kattiq, suyuq va gaz holatidagi fazalari)ning o&#8217;zgarishini tushuntirish va kelajakda bo&#8217;ladigan o&#8217;zgarishlarni bashorat qilishdan iborat. G. tog&#8217;jin- slari mexanik xususiyatlarining paydo bo&#8217;lish ob&#8217;ektiv qonuniyatlarini va er- ning ma&#8217;lum qismlarining siljishi, mustahkamlanishi va emirilishi sa- bablarini o&#8217;rganadi. G. 19 &#8212; va 20-a.lar bo&#8217;sag&#8217;asida geofizikanint bir bo&#8217;limi sifatida geol. va mexanika fanlari- ning tutashgan sohasida vujudga kelgan. Muhandislik geol.si, yaxlit muhit mexa- nikasi, gidro va gaz-mexanika, termodi- namika b-n ham aloqador.
