Ilmiy ishlari qattiq jismlarning kvant nazariyasiga oid (qattiq jismning Devay modeli, Devay temperaturasi, Devay issiqlik sig&#8217;imi qonuni). Qutbli va qutbsiz erituvchilar eritmalaridagi molekulalarning dipol momentlarini tekshirib (1912), dipol momenti nazariyasiga asos solgan. E. A. Xokkel bilan birgalikda kuchli elektrolitlar nazariyasi (Debay \u2014 Xokkel nazariyasi)ni ishlab chiqqan (1923). Polikristall materiallarning ichki tuzilishini rentgen nurlari yordamida o&#8217;rganish usuli (Devay \u2014Sherrer usuli) ni ishlab chiqqan. Kompton effektini tushuntirgan, ultratovushda difraktsiya hodisasini aniqlagan, polimerlarning tuzilishini tekshirgan. Qattiq jismlar, atomlar, elektrolitlar o&#8217;tkazuvchanligi va boshqalarga oid asarlar muallifi.
