Suv qo&#8217;shilsa, xamirsimon massa hosil bo&#8217;ladi, vaqt o&#8217;tishi bilan qotib, toshsimon jismga aylanadi. Tsement havoda ham, suvda ham qotish xususiyatiga ega. Tsement qurilishda juda keng qo&#8217;llaniladigan betonning asosiy tarkibiy qismi hisoblanadi. Tsementning romantsement, portlandtsement, glinozyomsement, kengayuvchan, gidravlik qo&#8217;shimchali kabiturlari mavjud. Romantsement ohaktoshni 900\u00b0 gacha kuydirish yo&#8217;li bilan olinadi, keyin maydalab kukun holiga keltiriladi. Kengayuvchan Tsement gidroizolyasiya ishlarida, choklarni yopish va ta&#8217;mirlash ishlarida qo&#8217;llaniladi. Gidravlik qo&#8217;shimchali portlandtsement (ba&#8217;zan &#171;pussolan portlandtsement&#187; deb ham yuritiladi) Tsement klinkeri (toshqoli) va nordon gidravlik qo&#8217;shimchalar (trepel, diatomit, Trass, pemza va boshqalar)ni birgalikda maydalash (kukunlash) yo&#8217;li bilan tayyorlanadi. Gidravlik qo&#8217;shimchalar aralashma miqdorining 20-40% ini tashkil etishi mumkin.
