Dastlab jurnalistika va teatr tanqidchiligi bilan shug&#8217;ullangan. &#171;Harbiy asirlar&#187; (1919) turkumidagi pyesalarida 1-jahon urushi voqealari va xalqning urushga qarshi kurashlari keng ifodalangan. 1933 yildan Frantsiyada emigratsiyada bo&#8217;lgan. &#171;Tomas Vendt&#187; (1920), &#171;Yahudiy Zyuss&#187; (1920-22), &#171;Ko&#8217;rimsiz gersoginya&#187; (1923) romanlari mavzuining rang-barangligi bilan ajralib turadi. &#171;Quvg&#8217;un&#187; (1939) romanida yozuvchi o&#8217;zining surgun tufayli siyosiy kurashdan uzoqlashib qolganligini tasvirlaydi. &#171;Yahudiylar urushi&#187; trilogiyasi (1932-42) da inson shaxsi muammosiga munosabati va gumanistik qarashlari aks etgan. &#171;Akauka Lautenzaklar&#187; (1943), &#171;Simon&#187; (1944), &#171;tokzordagi tulkilar&#187; (1947), &#171;tentakning donoligi&#8230;&#187;(1952) romanlari, &#171;beva Kapet&#187; (1956) dramasi va boshqa asarlar muallifi.
