Molekulasidagi gidroksil guruh soniga qarab Fenollar 1 atomli, 2 atomli va kup atomli bo&#8217;ladi. 1 atomli fenollar gomologik qatorining 1vakili \u2014 oksibenzol S6N5 on odatda fenol xam deyiladi. Toluolning oksi hosilasi (metilfenollar) o, m va lkrezollar, ksilollarning oksi xreilalari esa ksilollar deyiladi. Naftalin qatorining fenollari naftollar deb ataladi. Oddiy 2 atomli Fenollar odioksibenzol \u2014 pirokatexin, m dioksibenzol \u2014 rezortsin va ldioksibenzol \u2014 gidroxinon deb nomlanadi. Ko&#8217;p atomli Fenollar pirogallol, floroglyusin deyiladi. Ko&#8217;pchilik Fenollar rangeiz kristallar, ayrimlari suyuq moddalar. Ba&#8217;zi Fenollar o&#8217;ziga xos o&#8217;tkir hidli. Oddiy Fenollar suvda bir oz, deyarli barcha Fenollar spirt, efir, benzolda yaxshi eriydi. Fenollarning spirtlardan farqi shuki, ular kuchsiz kislotalar; ishqorlar bilan osongina reaktsiyaga kirishib tuzeimon moddalar \u2014 fenolyatlar (masalan, C6H;ONa) hosil qiladi.
