Alyuminiy oksid amfoter oksiddir, kontsentrlangan kislotalarda erib, alyuminiy tuzlarini, ishqorlarda erib, alyuminat kislota tuzlari \u2014 alyuminatlarni hosil qiladi. A12O3 ning har xil tarkibli gidratlangan (suvli) shakllari ma&#8217;lum. Alyuminiy gidroksidga gidrargilit (gibbsit) A1(on)3 va sun&#8217;iy yo&#8217;l bilan olinadigan bayerit kiradi. Alyuminiy oksid alyuminiy olishda ishlatiladi, Alyuminiy oksidning o&#8217;zi esa boksit, nefelin va kaolindan olinadi. Tabiatda Alyuminiy oksid kristallari korund, yoqut va sapfir hollarida uchraydi; korund nihoyatda qattiq bo&#8217;lganidan qayroqtosh va jilvir sifatida, yoqut va sapfir zargarlikda ishlatiladi.
