O&#8217;zbekistonda xizmat ko\u2019rsatgan san&#8217;at arbobi (1964). Bokudagi doril-mualliminni tugatgan (1925). Dastlab Darbanddagi lbosqich Ozarbayjon maktabida, Bo&#8217;ynoqdagi ta&#8217;lim va tarbiya texnikumida o&#8217;qituvchi bo&#8217;lib ishlagan. 1927 yilda aksilinqilobiy tashkilot a&#8217;zosi sifatida hibsga olinib, 1928 yil fevralda Toshkentga surgun qilingan. Shayxzoda O&#8217;rta Osiyo untining Sharq fakultetida qisqa muddat o&#8217;qigani (1928)dan keyin &#171;Sharq haqiqati&#187; (1929-32), &#171;qizil O&#8217;zbekiston&#187;, &#171;yosh leninchi&#187; gazetalari (1932), &#171;Guliston&#187; jurnali (1933-34) tahririyatlarida xizmat qilgan. 1933 yil Bokudagi pedagogika institutining barcha kurslari uchun imtihon topshirib, fan qo&#8217;mitasi qoshidagi aspiranturaga o&#8217;qishga kirgan (1934). Ayni paytda til va adabiyot institutida ilmiy xodim bo&#8217;lib ishlagan (1935\u2014 38). 1938 yildan umrining oxiriga qadar dastlab kechki, so&#8217;ngra kunduzgi pedagogika institutlarida o&#8217;zbek adabiyoti tarixidan ma&#8217;ruza o&#8217;qigan. Dastlabki she&#8217;riy to&#8217;plami \u2014 &#171;loyiq soqchi&#187; (1932). Shundan keyin Shayxzodaning &#171;O&#8217;n she&#8217;r&#187; (1932), &#171;Undoshlarim&#187; (1933), &#171;Uchinchi kitob&#187; (1934), &#171;Jumhuriyat&#187; (1935), &#171;o&#8217;n ikki&#187;, &#171;yangi devon&#187; (1937), &#171;Saylov qo&#8217;shiklari&#187; (1938), &#171;kurash nechun?&#187;(1942), &#171;jang va qo&#8217;shiq&#187;, &#171;ko&#8217;ngil deydiki&#8230;&#187;(1943), &#171;o&#8217;n besh yilning daftari&#187; (1947), &#171;yurt she&#8217;rlari&#187; (1948), &#171;Zamon torlari&#187;, &#171;Olqishlarim&#187; (1949), &#171;Yillar va yo&#8217;llar&#187; (1961), &#171;she&#8217;rlar&#187; (1964) va boshqalar she&#8217;riy to&#8217;plamlari nashr etilgan. Shayxzodaning dastlabki ijodida va qisman 50-yillardagi ayrim she&#8217;rlarida Ozarbayjon she&#8217;riyatiga xos ohanglar, minbar she&#8217;riyat belgilari ustuvorlik qilgan. Ammo Shayxzoda o&#8217;zbek mumtoz va zamonaviy she&#8217;riyatining tili va uslubini egallagani sayin uning she&#8217;rlarida O&#8217;zbekona musiqiy ravonlik kuchaya bordi. Shayxzoda voqelikka faol munosabatda bo&#8217;lishga intilib, xalq va mamlakat hayotida ro&#8217;y bergan muhim voqealarni tasvirlashga, mehnat va kurash qahramonlari obrazini yaratishga alohida e&#8217;tibor berdi. U shu maqsadda Doston janriga qo&#8217;l urib, &#171;O&#8217;rtoq mulk&#187; (1933), &#171;chirog'&#187;, &#171;o&#8217;rtoq&#187;, &#171;Meros&#187;, &#171;tuproq va haq&#187; (1936), &#171;ovchi qissasi&#187;, &#171;Iskandar Zulqarnayn&#187; (1940), &#171;O&#8217;n birlar&#187;, &#171;Jenya&#187;, &#171;oqsoqol&#187; (1943), &#171;Axmadjonning hikmatlari&#187;, &#171;uchinchi o&#8217;g&#8217;il&#187; (1944), &#171;Nurmat otaning tushi&#187; (1947) singari liroepik asarlar yozdi. Shoirning 30\u201440 yillardagi she&#8217;riyatiga ham, keyingi ijodiga ham xos muhim fazilatlardan biri syujetlilikdir. Shayxzoda lirik syujet yaratishga moyil shoir sifatida xalq afsonalari va tarixiy o&#8217;tmish sahifalariga, shuningdek, zamondoshlari hayotiga murojaat etib, o&#8217;z she&#8217;rlariga balladaga xos poetik belgilar va turli poetik tafsillarni olib kirgan, so&#8217;zning she&#8217;riy qurilmadagi mavqeini oshirish choralarini ko&#8217;rgan. Shu bilan birga Shayxzoda qofiyaning yangi badiiy imkoniyatlarini kashf etib, o&#8217;zbek she&#8217;riyatiga yangi vazn va shakl ko&#8217;rinishlarini olib kirgan. Shoir ijodiga xos bu tamoyil uning, ayniqsa, &#171;Toshkentnoma&#187; (1958) lirik dostonida yorqin ifodasini topgan. Shayxzoda 2-jahon urushi yillarida yozgan &#171;Jaloliddin Manguberdi&#187; (1944) tragediyasida o&#8217;z yurtining ozodligi va mustaqilligi uchun mugul istilochilariga karshi kurashgan so&#8217;nggi Xorazm shohining jangovar jasoratini tarixan aniq va haqqoniy tasvirlagan. &#171;Mirzo Ulug&#8217;bek&#187; (1961) tragediyasida Shayxzoda bosh qahramon obrazini Amir Temur va temuriylar davrida o&#8217;zbek xalqi hayotida ro&#8217;y bergan Uyg&#8217;onishning yorqin timsoli sifatida aks ettirgan. Shekspirona uslubda yozilgan bu asarda Shayxzoda Ulug&#8217;bek hayotining so\u2019nggi 2 yilini tasvirlash orqali uning jahon fani tarixidan munosib o\u2019rin egallagan mashhur olim, adolatparvar va haqiqatparvar davlat arbobi va ayni paytda saltanatning mutaassib kuchlari oldida ojiz bir inson bo&#8217;lganini ham haqqoniy ko&#8217;rsatgan. Shekspirona ko&#8217;lam va harorat bilan yozilgan &#171;Mirzo Ulug&#8217;bek&#187; tragediyasining maydonga kelishi o&#8217;zbek dramaturgiyasi va teatri tarixida katta voqea bo&#8217;ldi. Shayxzoda stsenariysi asosida rejissyor L. Fayziyev tomonidan yaratilgan &#171;Ulug&#8217;bek yulduzi&#187; (1964) filmi esa keng xalq ommasiga ulug&#8217; o&#8217;zbek olimi va uning fojiali taqdiri bilan yaqindan tanishish imkonini berdi. Shayxzoda she&#8217;riy ijodida, asosan, zamonaviy mavzularda qalam tebratdi, dramaturgiyasida esa, tarixiy utmishga teran nazar tashlab, undagi zamonaviy muammolarni yoritishga yordam beruvchi siymolar va voqealarga yangi badiiy hayot bag&#8217;ishladi. U umrining sunggi yillarida Beruniy to&#8217;g&#8217;risida so\u2019nggi sahna asarini yozdi. Shayxzoda, badiiy ijodning barcha tur va janrlarida asarlar yozibgina qolmay, adabiyotshunos va tanqidchi sifatida ham samarali ijod qilgan. 1941 yildayoq &#171;Genial shoir&#187; monografiyasini e&#8217;lon qilgan Shayxzoda umrining sunggi kunlariga qadar Navoiy hayoti va ijodi bilan muttasil shug&#8217;ullanib keldi. U Navoiyning 500 yilligi munosabati bilan yozgan &#171;Navoiyning lirik qahramoni haqida&#187; (1948) maqolasidan keyin &#171;Navoiy lirikasining ba&#8217;zi bir poetik usullari haqida&#187; (1959), &#171;Ustodning san&#8217;atxonasida&#187; (3 qismli maqola, 1965-66), &#171;g&#8217;azal mulkining sultoni&#187; (1966), &#171;tazkirachilik tarixidan&#187; (1968) singari yirik ilmiy tadqiqotlar yaratib, navoiyshunoslik fanini yangi taraqqiyot bosqichiga olib chiqdi. Shayxzoda adabiyotshunos va tanqidchi sifatida ham samarali qalam tebratib, o&#8217;zbek xalq og&#8217;zaki ijodining Fozil shoir singari namoyandalari, &#171;Alpomish&#187;, &#171;Shirin bilan shakar&#187; kabi asarlari, o&#8217;zbek mumtoz va zamonaviy adabiyotining Bobur, Muqimiy, Furqat, Oybek, G&#8217;afur G&#8217;ulom, Hamid Olimjon, jahon adabiyotining Nizomiy Ganjaviy, Shayxzoda Rustaveli, A.S. Pushkin, N.A. Nekrasov, A.N. Ostrovskiy, T.G. Shevchenko, A.P. Chexov singari namoyandalariga bag&#8217;ishlangan asarlar yozdi. Pedagog olim va shoir sifatida esa talaygina shoir, adabiyotshunos va tanqidchilar avlodining yetishib chiqishiga munosib hissa qo&#8217;shdi. Shayxzoda adabiy bilim doirasining kengayishi, ijodining mumtoz jahon yozuvchilari badiiy tajribasi bilan boyishida tarjima muxim rol o&#8217;ynadi. U Sh. Rustavelining &#171;yo&#8217;lbars terisini yopingan Paxlavon&#187; (hamkorlikda) eposi, U. Shekspirning sonetlari, A.S. Pushkinning she&#8217;rlari, &#171;mis chavandoz&#187; dostoni, &#171;Mosart va Saleri&#187; tragediyasi, M.Yu. Lermontovning she&#8217;rlari va &#171;Kavkaz asiri&#187; dostonini, shuningdek, Nizomiy, Fuzuliy, Mirza Fatali Oxundov, Ezop, Esxil, Gyote, Bayron, Mayakovskiy, Nozim Hikmat va boshqa yozuvchilarning ayrim asarlarini o&#8217;zbek tiliga katta mahorat bilan tarjima qildi.
