Janubiy qutb Antarktidaning tinch okean qirg&#8217;og&#8217;iga yaqin qismida 280 metr balandlikda joylashgan. Bu yerda muzning qalinligi 2810 metrga yetadi. Yer yuzasidagi har qanday nuqta Janubiy qutbga nisbatan joylashgan bo&#8217;lib, har doim shimoliy yo&#8217;nalishda bo&#8217;ladi. Janubiy qutb atrofida iqlim juda ham sovuq, muttasil shamol va izg&#8217;irin, bo&#8217;ron bo&#8217;lib turadi. Havoning o&#8217;rtacha temperaturasi 1957-61 yillarda -48,6\u00b0, eng past temperatura -78,9\u00b0 bo&#8217;lgan. Qutb kuni qariyb 179 sutka davom etadi (23 sentabrdan 20-21 martgacha). R.
