Bu usul so&#8217;zlarning tovush tarkibiga emas, balki bo&#8217;g&#8217;in (hijo)lar hosil qilib, ularni yod olishga asoslangan. Usuli hijoiyada so&#8217;zdagi undosh tovushlarga tegishli unli tovushlar qo&#8217;shilib, hijo hosil qilingan, so&#8217;ng hijolar qushib O&#8217;qilgan. Usuli hijoiya ta&#8217;limda qadimdan qo&#8217;llanib kelgan. Miloddan avvalgi asrlardayoq Yunoniston va Rim davlatlarida savod o&#8217;rgatish shu usul asosida olib borilgan. O&#8217;rta Osiyo, umuman Sharqdagi maktabxonalarda ham Usuli hijoiya uzoq davr hukmronlik qilgan. Maktabxonalarda Usuli hijoiyada savod o\u2019rgatish (harflar nomini yodlash, bug&#8217;inlar hosil qilish, bo&#8217;g&#8217;inlarni qushish) 3 bosqichga bo\u2019lingan: 1-bosqichda Arab harflarining yozilish shakli bandlarga ajratilib yozib borilgan. O&#8217;quvchi har bir banddagi harflarni yodlab olgandan so&#8217;ng (&#171;alif&#187;, &#171;be&#187;, &#171;te&#187;, &#171;se&#187; tarzida) 2-bosqichga o&#8217;tilgan. Bu bosqichda har bir harfning nomi aytilib, unga &#171;zeru zabar&#187; qo&#8217;shib bo&#8217;g&#8217;in hosil qilingan (mas, &#171;be&#187; + &#171;zabar&#187; + &#171;ba&#187;). 3-bosqich abjad uqish bilan boshlangan. Unda bolalar qo&#8217;lidagi taxtachaga &#171;abjad&#187;, &#171;havvaz&#187;, &#171;xutti&#187;, &#171;kalaman&#187;, &#171;sa&#8217;ufas&#187;, &#171;qarashat&#187;, &#171;saxxaz&#187;, &#171;zag&#8217;az&#187; so&#8217;zlari yozib borilgan. Bu so&#8217;zlarning tarkibida Arab alifbosidagi barcha 28 harf, chunonchi &#171;abjad&#187; so&#8217;zida &#171;be&#187;, &#171;jim&#187;, &#171;dol&#187; harflari qatnashgan. Bo&#8217;g&#8217;in usulida savod o&#8217;rgatish qiyin bo&#8217;lganligi sababli 19-asrdan uni birmuncha isloh etishga harakat qilindi. Xususan, yangi usuldagi o&#8217;zbek maktablarida usuli maddiya (Arabcha \u2014 cho&#8217;zish usuli)da savod o\u2019rgatish rasm bo\u2019ldi. Bu usulda harflarning nomiga unli tovushlar qo&#8217;shilib, cho&#8217;zib bo&#8217;g&#8217;in hosil qilingan. A. Avloniyning &#171;birinchi muallim&#187;, A. Ibodiyevning &#171;Tahsilulalifbo&#187;, M. Faxriddinovning &#171;rahbari avval&#187; darsliklari usuli maddiya asosida tuzilgan.
